Uttarakhand Travel Guide: Best Places, Scenic Routes & Essential Tips
Uttarakhand is not just a destination, it is an emotion. Every journey to this Himalayan state brings something new — breathtaking landscapes, spiritual calm, rich culture, and warm local hospitality.
We are six family members from Delhi, led by Sardar Daljit Singh and family, and we are frequent travelers. We have visited Uttarakhand many times, and on every trip, we explore new places and learn more about the local culture, traditions, and history from the people living there.
This time, we got the opportunity to visit Hemkund Sahib for the third time, along with the world-famous Valley of Flowers.
Our 5 nights and 6 days Uttarakhand road trip started from Delhi in a comfortable Innova Crysta, driven by Jay Kumar, an experienced driver who knows Uttarakhand routes very well, as he has travelled here many times.
Trip Overview
- Total Duration: 5 Nights / 6 Days
- Starting Point: Delhi
- Group Size: 6 persons (Family trip)
- Vehicle Used: Innova Crysta
- Driver: Jay Kumar (Experienced in Uttarakhand routes)
- Main Highlights: Hemkund Sahib, Valley of Flowers, Govindghat, Joshimath

Day 1: Delhi to Joshimath – The Journey Begins
Our journey began early morning at 5:00 AM from Delhi. Everyone was excited and well prepared, with all luggage packed according to the mountain journey. Starting early helped us avoid city traffic and enjoy a smooth drive.
The route took us through Haridwar – Rishikesh – Devprayag – Rudraprayag – Joshimath. Along the way, we witnessed beautiful river confluences and scenic mountain views.
For food breaks, our driver Jay Kumar suggested Shiva Dhaba, based on his previous experience. The food was simple, fresh, and perfect for a long road journey.
By evening, we reached Joshimath, checked into our hotel, had dinner, and rested for the next day’s spiritual trek.
Night Stay: Joshimath
Day 2: Joshimath to Govindghat – Trek to Ghangaria
After breakfast, we drove a short distance from Joshimath to Govindghat, the base point for Hemkund Sahib and Valley of Flowers.
From Govindghat, we started our trek towards Ghangaria, the last village before Hemkund Sahib and the Valley of Flowers. The trek route was full of greenery, waterfalls, and fresh mountain air.
Despite being our third visit, the beauty of this place felt new again. Interacting with locals along the way gave us deeper insight into the region’s culture and daily life.
By evening, we reached Ghangaria, checked into our guesthouse, had a simple meal, and rested.
Night Stay: Ghangaria
Day 3: Hemkund Sahib Darshan – A Spiritual Experience
This day was the most important and spiritual part of our journey. Early in the morning, we started the trek from Ghangaria to Hemkund Sahib.
The trek is challenging, but the faith and devotion give strength. Surrounded by snow-clad mountains and a serene atmosphere, reaching Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara brings peace to the heart.
This was our third visit, yet the experience felt just as powerful and emotional as the first time. After darshan and spending peaceful moments near the holy lake, we began our descent back to Ghangaria.
Night Stay: Ghangaria
Day 4: Valley of Flowers – Nature at Its Best
After breakfast, we headed towards the Valley of Flowers, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This place truly lives up to its name.
Walking through the valley, we saw countless colorful flowers, lush green meadows, and snow peaks in the background. The silence, broken only by birds and flowing streams, made this experience unforgettable.
We spent quality time exploring, clicking photos, and absorbing the beauty of nature before returning to Ghangaria by afternoon.
Night Stay: Ghangaria
Day 5: Ghangaria to Joshimath – Return Journey
On this day, we trekked back from Ghangaria to Govindghat and then drove to Joshimath. The return journey gave us time to reflect on the experiences of the last few days.
Once again, food breaks at trusted roadside dhabas like Shiva Dhaba made the journey comfortable.
By evening, we reached Joshimath, relaxed, and enjoyed our last night in the mountains.
Night Stay: Joshimath
Day 6: Joshimath to Delhi – Journey Ends with Memories
After an early breakfast, we started our return drive from Joshimath to Delhi. Though the journey was long, the memories of Hemkund Sahib, Valley of Flowers, and the warm hospitality of Uttarakhand made it worthwhile.
We reached Delhi late at night, tired but completely satisfied.
