Why Visit Yamunotri?

Yamunotri is one of the holiest pilgrimage destinations in India and marks the beginning of the sacred Char Dham Yatra. The temple is located at an altitude of about 3,293 metres (10,804 feet) in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand.

The temple is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, who is worshipped as the goddess of life and purity. According to Hindu beliefs, taking blessings at Yamunotri helps devotees seek spiritual peace and is believed to free them from fear of untimely death.

Apart from its religious importance, Yamunotri is known for its snow-covered mountains, waterfalls, forests, rivers, and peaceful surroundings, making it a beautiful destination for both pilgrims and nature lovers.

About Yamunotri Dham

Yamunotri Dham  is one of the four sacred shrines of the Uttarakhand Char Dham Yatra and is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. Located in the Garhwal Himalayas, Yamunotri is traditionally the first Dham visited during the Char Dham pilgrimage.

According to Hindu beliefs, Yamunotri is the sacred source of the Yamuna River and holds great religious importance. The Yamunotri Temple is closely associated with Goddess Yamuna, while Surya Kund and Divya Shila are important places of worship for devotees visiting the Dham.

The present Yamunotri Temple was rebuilt by Maharani Guleria of Jaipur in the 19th century after the earlier temple was damaged. Surrounded by Himalayan mountains and natural beauty, Yamunotri Dham remains an important spiritual destination and a major part of the Char Dham Yatra.
