A real family travel story of faith, comfort, mountain adventures and unforgettable memories across Uttarakhand.
Some journeys are about discovering new places, while others bring families closer to their faith, traditions and one another. For Amit Joia and his family from Rajkot, Gujarat, the Char Dham Yatra was one such extraordinary journey—a spiritual pilgrimage through the sacred Himalayas, carefully planned around the comfort and needs of all seven family members.
With their elderly parents, Nandlal Bhagwanji Soni and Jogiya Chandrikaben Nandlal, travelling alongside the younger members of the family, comfort, safety, proper coordination and a relaxed pilgrimage experience were essential.
To make their dream pilgrimage smooth and memorable, the family chose Safarxpert for a customized Char Dham Yatra from Rajkot Gujarat, with a personalized itinerary, dedicated vehicles, hotel arrangements and the assistance of an experienced tour captain.
The result was a beautiful 12-day journey filled with temple darshan, Himalayan landscapes, sacred rivers, mountain adventures, family laughter and countless memories.
Why Amit Joia's Family Chose Safarxpert for Char Dham Yatra
Planning a Char Dham Yatra for a family of seven requires more than booking hotels and arranging transportation. The journey involves long mountain drives, changing weather, early departures, temple visits and trekking routes that can be challenging, especially for senior citizens.
The family wanted a travel plan that balanced spiritual experiences with practical comfort.
Safarxpert customized the arrangements according to the family’s requirements, including:
- Personalized itinerary: A thoughtfully planned 12-day journey covering the four sacred dhams and selected additional attractions.
- Two dedicated vehicles: A Kia Carens (6+1 configuration) and a Hyundai Aura (4+1 configuration), as specified in the family’s travel arrangements.
- Hotel coordination: Overnight stays arranged at different destinations along the route.
- Airport and railway station transfers: Pickup from Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun, and the planned drop at Haridwar Railway Station.
- Senior-friendly coordination: Clear daily briefings, regular communication and assistance with the travel schedule.
- Additional sightseeing: Lakha Mandal, Sem Mukhem Nagaraja Temple, Triyuginarayan Temple, Chopta Valley, Tungnath Temple and the Chandrashila trek.
Trip Captain Harsh Mani Ji coordinated the journey, briefed the family about upcoming activities and helped manage the arrangements according to the planned itinerary.
For a family travelling with elderly parents, having a well-coordinated trip can make a significant difference. The goal was simple: allow everyone to concentrate on devotion, enjoy the Himalayan scenery and create memories together.

Day 1: Arrival at Jolly Grant Airport and Overnight Stay in Dehradun
A spiritual journey begins in Uttarakhand
Every memorable journey has a beginning, and for Amit Joia’s family, it started with their arrival at Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun.
After welcoming the pilgrims at the airport, the Safarxpert team coordinated their transfers to the hotel in Dehradun. Following their journey, the family could settle into their rooms, freshen up and enjoy some well-deserved rest.
The first day was intentionally kept simple, allowing the elderly parents and other family members to recover from their travel before beginning the mountain journey.
The family spent the night in Dehradun, looking forward to the sacred temples and beautiful Himalayan landscapes awaiting them.
Travel highlight: A coordinated airport pickup and a comfortable first-night stay helped the family begin the pilgrimage in a relaxed manner.
Day 2: Dehradun to Barkot via Mussoorie, Kempty Falls and Lakha Mandal
Waterfalls, pahadi breakfast and stories from the Mahabharata
The second morning marked the beginning of the family’s road journey through the mountains of Uttarakhand.
After an early start from Dehradun, the vehicles travelled towards Mussoorie, where winding roads, green hills and beautiful mountain views made the drive memorable.
One of the day’s highlights was Kempty Falls, a popular waterfall near Mussoorie. The family enjoyed the surroundings, took photographs and paused to appreciate the natural beauty of the region.
Breakfast added another special touch to the journey. At Negi Bhaba, the family enjoyed a traditional-style mountain breakfast featuring aloo parathas, chai and pahadi Maggi.
After the break, the journey continued towards Lakha Mandal Temple.
Associated with stories from the Mahabharata, Lakha Mandal is connected with local traditions surrounding the Pandavas and the story of the Lakshagriha. Exploring the temple gave the family an opportunity to discover another important part of Uttarakhand’s cultural and spiritual heritage.
Following the temple visit, the family continued towards Barkot, enjoying the changing mountain scenery along the way.
By approximately 6 PM, they reached the Kharadi area near Barkot and checked in at Hotel Naveen. Welcome tea offered a pleasant break after a full day on the road.
Dinner was served around 8 PM, followed by the daily briefing from Trip Captain Harsh Mani Ji about the next day’s Yamunotri pilgrimage.
The family then rested, preparing for one of the most anticipated experiences of the tour.
Travel highlights: Mussoorie, Kempty Falls, a pahadi breakfast and Lakha Mandal Temple.
KedarNath Temple, Bhatar: The Ancient Shrine Known as Chota Kedarnath
Another spiritual highlight near Lakha Mandal is KedarNath Temple in Bhatar village, also known locally as Adi Kedar or Chota Kedarnath. Located in Uttarakhand’s Dehradun district, this ancient shrine adds another layer of religious and cultural significance to the region. For travellers exploring Lakha Mandal and its surroundings, the temple offers an opportunity to discover a lesser-known sacred site and experience the area’s rich spiritual heritage.
Day 3: Barkot to Yamunotri Dham and Back to Barkot
A rewarding pilgrimage to the source of the Yamuna
The third day began early with tea and breakfast before the family departed for Janki Chatti, the starting point of the traditional trekking route to Yamunotri Dham.
Upon reaching Janki Chatti at approximately 8 AM, the pilgrims prepared for the trek. The route is commonly described as approximately 6 km one way, although the actual distance and conditions may vary with the route and local arrangements.
Before the family began walking, Harsh Mani Ji explained the route, discussed the day’s plan and reminded everyone to proceed at a comfortable pace.
The ascent brought a mix of devotion, mountain scenery and the excitement of approaching one of the four sacred Char Dham shrines.
Around 12:30 PM, the family reached Yamunotri Dham. They visited the temple for darshan, explored the nearby sacred sites and saw Tapt Kund, an important hot spring associated with the pilgrimage.
For Amit Joia and his family, reaching Yamunotri was a meaningful moment. The spiritual atmosphere, surrounding mountains and sacred traditions made the effort worthwhile.
After completing their visits, the pilgrims began the return trek to Janki Chatti. They reached the starting point at approximately 5 PM and continued towards Barkot, arriving around 7 PM.
Dinner featured delicious pahadi-style food, providing a comforting end to a physically demanding day.
Harsh Mani Ji then briefed the family about the next day’s journey to Uttarkashi before everyone retired for the night.
Travel highlights: Yamunotri Temple, Tapt Kund, mountain views and the family’s first major pilgrimage trek.
Day 4: Barkot to Uttarkashi via Vishwanath Temple
A peaceful drive towards the sacred town of Uttarkashi
After breakfast, the family left Barkot and continued towards Uttarkashi.
The drive offered a change of scenery, with winding mountain roads and peaceful Himalayan surroundings accompanying the journey.
Upon reaching Uttarkashi, the family visited the revered Kashi Vishwanath Temple, an important Shiva temple in the town. The visit provided a peaceful spiritual experience before the upcoming journey to Gangotri.
By approximately 6 PM, the family checked in at Hotel Manokamana.
Welcome tea, a chance to relax and the mountain sunset created a pleasant atmosphere after the day’s drive. Dinner followed, and Harsh Mani Ji explained the next day’s itinerary, including the journey to Gangotri Dham.
The family rested overnight in Uttarkashi.
Travel highlights: Kashi Vishwanath Temple, scenic mountain roads and a relaxing evening in Uttarkashi.
Day 5: Uttarkashi to Gangotri Dham and Back
Sacred river views and the divine atmosphere of Gangotri
The fifth day took the family deeper into the Himalayan landscape, towards Gangotri Dham, one of the holiest destinations in the Char Dham pilgrimage.
After an early start, the family travelled along the mountain route, enjoying views of the Bhagirathi River and the surrounding hills.
The journey included stops around Maneri Dam, Sukhi Top and Harsil Valley. Each location offered its own character, from impressive water and mountain scenery to peaceful valleys surrounded by forested slopes.
Harsil was a particularly beautiful part of the journey, giving the family an opportunity to enjoy the fresh mountain air and capture photographs together.
Around noon, they reached Gangotri Dham.
The family visited Gangotri Temple for darshan, explored the nearby surroundings and experienced the spiritual atmosphere associated with the sacred River Ganga. They also collected water as part of their devotional experience.
Time spent at Gangotri offered a memorable combination of faith and Himalayan beauty. Family photographs and videos preserved the moments before the return journey.
Later, the family travelled back towards Uttarkashi, reaching the hotel at approximately 7 PM.
After tea and dinner, Harsh Mani Ji briefed everyone about the longer drive planned for the following day.
Travel highlights: Maneri Dam, Sukhi Top, Harsil Valley and Gangotri Temple.
Day 6: Uttarkashi to Sersi via Sem Mukhem Nagaraja Temple
Discovering a regional spiritual treasure
After breakfast, the family departed Uttarkashi for Sersi, travelling through the mountain regions around Lambgaon, Ghansali, Tiwara and Guptkashi, according to the planned route.
This day offered a different perspective on Uttarakhand: beyond the famous Char Dham shrines, the region is filled with local temples, traditional settlements and spiritual destinations deeply connected with regional culture.
A special stop was Sem Mukhem Nagaraja Temple, a revered local shrine associated with the worship of Nagaraja. The family spent time at the temple, enjoyed the surroundings and captured photographs and videos.
The visit added a distinctive experience to their customized Char Dham Yatra, extending the journey beyond the main pilgrimage circuit.
After continuing through the mountainous landscape, the family reached Sersi at approximately 8 PM.
They checked in at Hotel Adiyogi, enjoyed welcome tea and had dinner.
As the next day involved an early departure for Kedarnath, Harsh Mani Ji explained the arrangements, including the transfer towards Sonprayag and the onward pilgrimage logistics.
The family retired early, ready for the most physically demanding part of their journey.
Travel highlights: Sem Mukhem Nagaraja Temple, mountain villages and the scenic route towards Sersi.
Day 7: Sersi to Kedarnath Dham
The challenging and unforgettable journey to Lord Shiva's abode
The seventh day was one of the most significant moments of the entire Char Dham Yatra.
The family woke up around 4 AM, had bed tea and prepared for the early departure. They travelled towards Sonprayag, reaching around 5 AM according to the trip schedule.
From there, local shuttle services were used for the onward transfer to Gaurikund, subject to local transport arrangements.
The traditional trekking route from Gaurikund to Kedarnath is approximately 16 km, although the actual distance and route conditions may vary.
At around 6 AM, the family began the trek towards Kedarnath Dham.
The route passed through important stretches and stopping points, including Jungle Chatti, Bheembali and Lincholi, before the final ascent towards Kedarnath.
As the pilgrims continued upwards, the surrounding Himalayan landscape became increasingly dramatic. Mountain slopes, river views, resting points and the sight of fellow devotees moving towards the shrine created an atmosphere of shared determination.
The family took photographs and videos along the way while progressing towards their spiritual destination.
At approximately 4 PM, they reached Kedarnath Dham and checked in at Hotel Patliputra.
After freshening up, the family visited Kedarnath Temple for darshan and experienced the deeply moving atmosphere of the sacred shrine.
The evening offered an opportunity for prayer and devotion. The temple surroundings, mountain silhouettes and the possibility of clear Himalayan night skies made the experience especially memorable.
For the family, this was more than a destination reached after a trek. It was a shared achievement, bringing together faith, patience and the joy of travelling as a family.
They spent the night in Kedarnath, resting after a long and rewarding day.
Travel highlights: Gaurikund, the Himalayan trekking route, Kedarnath Temple and the evening spiritual atmosphere.
Important planning note: Kedarnath involves a strenuous high-altitude journey. The trek schedule, accommodation, darshan timing and return arrangements must be confirmed according to weather, official advisories and the physical abilities of each pilgrim. Helicopter or other assistance should never be assumed unless separately confirmed.
Day 8: Kedarnath Darshan and Return to Sonprayag and Sersi
Seeking blessings before returning from the mountains
The eighth morning was dedicated to completing the family’s Kedarnath experience and beginning the return journey.
Depending on the temple schedule and the previous day’s arrangements, the family had an opportunity for additional darshan and visits to important sites around Kedarnath.
They visited Bhairavnath Temple, associated with the protection of the Kedarnath region, and explored the areas around the temple complex, including the memorial and other significant pilgrimage landmarks.
These visits added depth to the family’s spiritual experience, allowing them to appreciate the history and traditions surrounding Kedarnath.
After completing the planned visits, the pilgrims began their descent towards Gaurikund.
The return trek required patience and careful movement, particularly after the demanding ascent of the previous day. Rest stops and a comfortable pace were important parts of the journey.
By approximately 8 PM, the family reached the Sonprayag area, where the Safarxpert vehicle arrangements coordinated their onward transfer, subject to the local shuttle and road conditions.
They checked in at Hotel Adiyogi in Sersi, had dinner and rested.
The family had completed a major milestone: visiting Kedarnath, experiencing its spiritual atmosphere and returning from the mountains together.
Travel highlights: Kedarnath Temple surroundings, Bhairavnath Temple and the return journey through the Himalayan landscape.
Day 9: Sersi to Chopta via Triyuginarayan Temple
Triyuginarayan Temple: The Sacred Wedding Place of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati
After several days of visiting the main Char Dham shrines, the family began the ninth day with a memorable spiritual excursion to Triyuginarayan Temple in Uttarakhand. According to Hindu religious tradition, this sacred temple is associated with the divine wedding of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, while its eternal flame holds special significance in local belief. The peaceful temple surroundings offered the family an opportunity to seek blessings, reflect on the values of love and togetherness, and capture meaningful family photographs. Visitors may also explore wedding-related rituals where available and permitted.
From Triyuginarayan Temple to Chopta Valley: A Scenic Himalayan Escape
After the temple visit, the family continued towards Chopta, Uttarakhand, a beautiful Himalayan destination popularly known as the Mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand. With green meadows, forested slopes and panoramic mountain views, Chopta offered a refreshing change after days of spiritual travel. The family enjoyed the scenic drive, captured photographs and relaxed amid the natural beauty of the Himalayas. After reaching Chopta, they settled in for the night, ready for the upcoming Tungnath Temple and Chandrashila trek—another memorable adventure on their 12-day Char Dham family tour with Safarxpert.
Day 10: Chopta, Tungnath Temple and Chandrashila Trek, Then Badrinath
A day of mountain adventure and spiritual devotion
The tenth day combined two distinctive Himalayan experiences: the trek to Tungnath Temple and Chandrashila, followed by the journey towards Badrinath.
After an early start, the family prepared for the mountain trek.
Tungnath is widely recognized as one of the highest Shiva temples in the world and is an important destination for devotees exploring the Himalayan region.
The trek passes through beautiful mountain scenery, with open views, alpine landscapes and changing weather conditions. For those continuing beyond Tungnath, the trail towards Chandrashila offers a more demanding uphill section and can provide spectacular panoramic views in suitable conditions.
The family enjoyed the route, captured photographs and videos, and visited Tungnath Temple for darshan as planned.
Chandrashila was another anticipated highlight, although reaching the summit depends on the group’s fitness, weather, daylight and trail conditions. For a family travelling with elderly parents, this excursion should be approached with realistic expectations and the option to skip the more strenuous section.
After the trek, the family returned towards Chopta and continued their journey to Badrinath.
They reached the Badrinath area at approximately 7 PM, according to the planned schedule, and checked in at Hotel Bhagirathi Palace.
The evening was devoted to rest, dinner and the spiritual atmosphere of Badrinath. Where temple timings and arrival conditions allowed, the family attended evening aarti or darshan.
It was a fitting end to a day filled with natural beauty, devotion and adventure.
Travel highlights: Tungnath Temple, the Chandrashila trail, Himalayan views and arrival in Badrinath.
Day 11: Badrinath Darshan, Mana Village and Journey to Pipalkoti
Seeking blessings at Badrinath and exploring Himalayan heritage
The eleventh day began with an early morning routine in Badrinath.
- After bathing using the available hot-water facilities, the family prepared for darshan at Badrinath Temple, one of the most revered Vishnu temples in India and a principal destination of the Char Dham pilgrimage.
The atmosphere around the temple, framed by the mountains, provided a memorable spiritual experience.
After darshan, the family explored Mana Village, a celebrated Himalayan settlement near the India–Tibet border.
The visit included well-known attractions associated with the region’s religious traditions and local history:
- Vyas Gufa: A cave associated with traditions surrounding Sage Vyasa and the composition of the Mahabharata.
- Ganesh Gufa: A cave linked by tradition with Lord Ganesha and the narration of the Mahabharata.
- Bheem Pul: A natural rock formation over the Saraswati stream, associated with a popular Mahabharata legend.
- Local tea shops: A pleasant place to pause, enjoy refreshments and experience the atmosphere of the village.
The family took photographs, made videos and enjoyed the distinctive setting of Mana.
These visits complemented the four-dham pilgrimage with a cultural experience rooted in Himalayan traditions.
Later, the family began the drive towards Pipalkoti.
They reached Hotel KDC Retreat at approximately 7 PM, checked in and enjoyed welcome tea followed by dinner.
After eleven days of temple visits, long drives and mountain adventures, the family spent the evening relaxing and sharing memories from the journey.
Travel highlights: Badrinath Temple, Mana Village, Vyas Gufa, Ganesh Gufa and Bheem Pul.
Day 12: Pipalkoti to Haridwar via Dhari Devi and Panch Prayag
Completing the pilgrimage with memories to last a lifetime
The final day of the Safarxpert family tour began with tea and breakfast at Pipalkoti.
The family then started the return journey towards Haridwar, enjoying the mountain views along the way.
One of the planned spiritual stops was Dhari Devi Temple, a revered shrine associated with the protection of the Garhwal region.
The temple visit offered another opportunity for prayers and gratitude as the pilgrimage approached its conclusion.
The return drive also passed through the region associated with the Panch Prayag, the five sacred river confluences of Uttarakhand: Vishnuprayag, Nandprayag, Karnaprayag, Rudraprayag and Devprayag.
Depending on the final route, available time and road conditions, travellers may see or stop at selected confluences along the journey. Visiting all five in detail should not be assumed within a single transfer day without additional time.
The drive back offered one last chance to appreciate Uttarakhand’s winding mountain roads, river valleys and picturesque landscapes.
For Amit Joia’s family, the journey had become much more than a sequence of temple visits. It had been a shared experience of devotion, adventure, cultural discovery and togetherness.
Over twelve days, the family had travelled through sacred destinations, crossed mountain roads, completed challenging treks, enjoyed regional food and collected photographs and videos that would preserve these memories for years to come.
Finally, the family reached Haridwar for the planned railway station drop-off, bringing the pilgrimage to a close.
Travel highlights: Dhari Devi Temple, selected Panch Prayag viewpoints along the route and the concluding transfer to Haridwar Railway Station.
The Pipalkoti–Haridwar transfer is a long mountain journey. Departure time, sightseeing stops and railway departure schedules should be coordinated carefully, with adequate buffer time for road delays.
How Safarxpert Made This Family Char Dham Yatra Special

For Amit Joia and his family, the customized arrangements and daily coordination helped bring the different elements of the tour together.
1. A personalized tour plan
The family wanted more than a standard Char Dham itinerary. They wanted additional temples, scenic destinations and trekking experiences. Safarxpert incorporated these preferences into the planned route.
2. Dedicated transportation
The Kia Carens and Hyundai Aura arrangements were selected for the group’s transportation needs. Coordinating two vehicles also helped organize the family transfers and luggage according to the planned schedule.
3. Hotel coordination at each destination
Overnight stays were arranged at Dehradun, Barkot, Uttarkashi, Sersi, Kedarnath, Chopta, Badrinath and Pipalkoti, according to the itinerary.
4. Daily briefings and trip coordination
Trip Captain Harsh Mani Ji briefed the family about the upcoming day’s route, activities and arrangements. This helped everyone understand what to expect and prepare for early departures and trekking days.
5. A balance of pilgrimage and sightseeing
The journey combined Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath with additional destinations such as Lakha Mandal, Sem Mukhem, Triyuginarayan, Chopta, Tungnath and Chandrashila.
6. Family memories beyond the temples
From pahadi breakfasts and waterfall photographs to Himalayan treks and shared moments at sacred shrines, the journey gave the family many opportunities to enjoy their time together.
For Safarxpert, a customized tour means understanding what matters to the traveller and organizing the journey around those needs as practically as possible.
Why Choose a Customized Char Dham Yatra Package for Your Family?
A customized Char Dham Yatra package can be especially useful for families travelling with parents, children or people with different fitness levels.
Consider a personalized itinerary if your family needs:
- Dedicated vehicle arrangements for comfortable transfers.
- Hotel options suited to your budget and room requirements.
- Additional temple visits beyond the standard Char Dham route.
- More flexible sightseeing and meal stops.
- A carefully coordinated schedule for trekking days.
- Assistance with local transport and pilgrimage logistics.
- A balance between religious visits, scenic experiences and rest.
However, customization should also mean knowing when not to overpack an itinerary. Kedarnath, Tungnath and Chandrashila can require significant physical effort, while long mountain drives may be tiring for senior citizens.
A responsible tour plan should prioritize suitable rest, realistic driving times, weather flexibility and the needs of every family member.
